BACKGROUND
Kānuka grows all across New Zealand from sea level to about 400 metres above sea level. The oil composition differs as you move around the country. For instance, the dominant component of the oil is alpha-pinene which can range from 50% to as high as 78%. Research into Kānuka is ongoing. Currently we source all our is sustainably wild harvested. There are only a small number of planted plantations. The oil is in the leaves so in loading the still we get the best oil yield by keeping wood to a minimum. It is not related to mānuka even though grow well together
FRAGRANCE
Kānuka oil has a sweet, herbaceous and earthy. It tends to be one of those oils you either love or hate. We love it!
USES
Kānuka has a property that makes its perfect for a Balm. The dominant element in Kānuka oil is alpha-pinene. This has anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties which, in turn, lends itself to a large range of external uses. Kānuka is perfect for a balms as it is very light and penetrates the skin well.
